Industry to Dvorak: Please don’t use our OS

December 10th, 2007 by FireRabbit

Apple CEO Steve Jobs reports companies including Ubuntu, Red Hat, Microsoft, and Apple have all asked John C. Dvorak to use someone else’s operating system.

In response, John has announced that he’s creating his own operating system. Analysts predict, however, that Mr. Dvorak will become disgusted with his own creation within 6 months, and will end up switching back to MS-DOS 6.22.

Dvorak Unveils New OS

December 10th, 2007 by FireRabbit

Tech columnist John C. Dvorak unveiled a new computer operating system today, as an option for users who feel shunned by Windows, Mac and Linux alternatives. Dubbed “DvorOS“, the software is built on a mixture of Assembly, AJAX and Hypercard, and can be run on any digital device from top-of-the-line Dells to rice cookers.

Watch out Linux.

Dvorak vs. OLPC

Dvorak Decries Effort To Educate

Oh, its no surprise. John C. Dvorak is ranting and raving again, this time about how useless and pointless Nicholas Negroponte’s One Laptop Per Child intiative is. It is, in fact cruel, according to him. How crass and naive we must be to think that giving a laptop to a starving child will miraculously save his or her poor life. You know, John. You’re right. A laptop won’t save a child’s life. It won’t feed them. If they are starving when they get the laptop, they will still die if they don’t get any food.

By the same token, a truckload of rice won’t educate them, either. It won’t teach them how to farm or read or give them weather information. In fact, deliveries of rice merely teaches them about loss and dependence. They don’t get fed all the time because there’s not enough to go around and they just wait for the food to come because they don’t have to do anything to get it. Deliveries of such foodstuffs to the hundreds of thousands of poor villages around the world teach the truly starving how to use crutches.

See http://www.laptopgiving.org/ for information on how you can offer children in the third world an education for life - not just a few days worth of food.

John Dvorak should stop talking Petition

February 17th, 2006 by mattcohn

To: Residents of the Internet

For a long period of time John C. Dvorak has given his opinion on technology and the internet through both his own personal blog and through columns in magazines and technology websites. In this time it is easy to see a progression of Dvorak’s mental state from healthy and sane into where he is now: a delusional lunatic who is either so out of touch with reality he believes what he says, or just likes to hear his own voice. Either way, although he’s not respected enough to be a danger to anyone, Dvorak is a major annoyance to the entire online community.

That is why we, the undersigned, wish to have Dvorak forcefully removed from all of his written columns, blogs, and other literary outlets. Furthermore, we wish to have a moratorium on Dvorak making any sort of announcements, revelations, or engaging in any other public communication until a time when he is deemed ready for reentry into society.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

The blogsphere reacts

I did a quick search on technorati to see what people are saying about dvorak’s claim that apple will get rid of osx in favor of windows.

Here are some of the titles I’ve come across, to give you an idea of what people think of this guy:

“John Dvorak is smoking crack”

“Is John C. Dvorak Off His Meds?…He Thinks Apple Is Switching To Windows”

“Listening To Dvorak (Is Like Aural Suicide)”

“Dvorak’s Shootin’ His Mouth Off. Again.”

“John Dvorak is a Stupid Fuck”

“One question: Is John Dvorak on drugs?”

“John C. Dvorak is a publicity monger and is a waste of time”

See for yourself: http://technorati.com/search/dvorak%20apple. At the time of this posting, there were 1,315 results.

I’ve also added a syndicated list of the latest blog posts about dvorak to the sidebar, powered by google blog search (apparently technorati doesn’t offer RSS for searches).
